Papilledema and Chiari I in childhood: case report

چکیده

Introduction: Chiari malformation type I (CM-I) is a condition characterized by an abnormal craniocervical transition whose main finding cerebellar tonsillar ectopia of > 5 mm below the foramen magnum. The clinical manifestations are occipital headache, truncal ataxia, corticospinal tract dysfunctions, and scoliosis.
 Objective: scope this article to report rare case papilledema visual impairment in child diagnosed with CM-I.
 Methods/case presentation: Presentation 8-year-old difficulty performing school activities due blurring 3 days prior hospitalization. She was taken her parents ophthalmologist who identified bilateral urgently referred pediatric emergency unit. underwent magnetic resonance imaging brain CM-I identified. urgent surgical posterior cranial fossa decompression progressed complete improvement, confirmed ophthalmological examination.
 Conclusion: Papilledema may be initial manifestation children prevent or even reverse impairment.
